Northern Lights Equipment Bridge

Serviceable trauma and medical equipment is retired every year by Canadian businesses, EMS services, hospitals and industry — while remote, northern and austere programs train with too little. The Equipment Bridge connects the two, responsibly.

Our commitment

We follow the World Health Organization's guidance on medical device donations. That means donations are recipient-led: we place equipment against a stated need, not against what happens to be available. Equipment that cannot be used safely, maintained locally, or supplied with consumables does not help anyone — it becomes someone else's disposal problem.

What we accept

Training manikins, task trainers and simulation equipment
Diagnostic equipment: BP cuffs, stethoscopes, pulse oximeters
Splinting and immobilization: vacuum and rigid splints, collars, scoop stretchers, backboards
Airway and ventilation training equipment, BVMs, suction units
AED trainers and training pads
IV and IO training arms
Sealed, in-date disposables: gauze, bandages, gloves
Training tourniquets and bleeding-control trainers

What we cannot accept

Expired product of any kind
Opened, used or potentially contaminated single-use items
Medications, narcotics or any controlled substance
Equipment without power supplies, consumables or manuals
Devices requiring proprietary calibration or service contracts unavailable in the receiving community
Equipment that is not functional and cannot be economically repaired

How donation works

Offer — send us a description of the equipment, its age, condition, and whether manuals, accessories and consumables are included. Photos help.
Screening — we assess functionality, completeness, expiry and suitability against current recipient requests.
Matching — equipment is matched to a community or program that has asked for it.
Preparation — decontamination, function testing, inventory tagging.
Delivery and confirmation — shipment with a manifest, and written confirmation of receipt from the recipient.

Important: tax receipts

ITLS Northern Lights is a not-for-profit corporation and is not a CRA-registered charity. We cannot issue official donation tax receipts for gifts in kind. We will provide written acknowledgement of your donation and a record of where it went, and we will always be transparent about this before you commit anything.

Requesting equipment

Communities, nursing stations, training programs and austere-setting providers can request equipment by telling us what you need, what you already have, who will use and maintain it, and your realistic shipping and storage situation.
