Our Name

The aurora borealis is among Canada's most recognizable national symbols — visible coast to coast, and most iconic across the territorial and northern provincial regions where pre-hospital trauma care is hardest to deliver. The name signals a chapter that is unmistakably Canadian, national in scope, and deliberately oriented toward illuminating trauma care in the places where light is hardest to reach: remote, austere, cold-weather, Indigenous, industrial, federal, and military operating environments. 

Our Mission

ITLS Northern Lights advances the quality of trauma care in Canada by delivering ITLS programs to federal, Veteran, Indigenous, and specialty audiences whose unique operating environments are not the principal focus of provincial chapters. The Chapter equips emergency care providers with the assessment and intervention skills that improve outcomes in pre-hospital trauma. 

Vision

A Canada in which every federal, Veteran, Indigenous, and specialty trauma responder has access to a current, standardized, and culturally safe ITLS course delivered by instructors who understand their operating environment — consistent with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's health-related Calls to Action and Canada's obligations under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
